What Is Considered Entry Into A Confined Space?
AS2865 defines a confined space as an enclosed or partially enclosed space that is not designed or intended primarily to be occupied by a person and there is a risk of one or more of:
An oxygen concentration outside the safe oxygen range.
A concentration of airborne contaminant that may cause impairment, loss of consciousness or asphyxiation.
A concentration of flammable airborne contaminant that may cause injury from fire or explosion.
Engulfment in a stored free-flowing solid or a rising level of liquid that may cause suffocation or drowning.
Whether it’s navigating tunnels, pipelines, or tanks, working in confined spaces presents unique challenges and hazards that demand specialised training and expertise. Entry into confined spaces training is vital for any individual needing to enter and work in confined spaces as part of their job.
