CONDUCT CIVIL CONSTRUCTION EXCAVATOR OPERATIONS – RIIMPO320F
Course Topics
- Legislation, responsibility and maintenance
- Safe operating procedures including methods of trench construction, bucket geometry, use of rock-breaker and other attachments
- Machine inspection and pre start checks
- Work area assessment
- Digging techniques including set up on trench top, batter cutting, digging around services and to required levels
- Use of attachments etc. (where applicable)
- Refueling
- Loading onto/off trailer/truck safely
- Basic Machine Maintenance including refueling
- Safe parking and Shut down – including post operational machine checks, securing of machine and work area
Please Note: This course is available on the public schedule at our Port Hedland training facility.
The excavator course is also available for private/group bookings. Training is usually delivered at your site, though MSTS can arrange a venue and equipment if required.

PREREQUISITES
There are no formal qualifications required to complete this unit of competency.
COURSE ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:
- All learners must be able to read and comprehend English to a level that will enable them to safely perform duties as specified in the competency standard.
- To ensure safe and competent performance in line with the relevant competency standards, all learners must demonstrate sufficient proficiency in English language, literacy, numeracy, and digital capability (LLND). MSTS is committed to inclusive learning practices and recognises that some learners may require additional support to meet course requirements.

- Provide valid identification.
- A reasonable level of fitness/mobility is required for the practical components (e.g. climb in & out of the machine, use hand tools).
